PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Granada program is available during the fall and spring semester. Courses are taken at the University of Granada’s modern language center: El Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM). Through its modern facilities and experienced professors the CLM provides Spanish language courses for visiting students from around the world. Each semester begins with a comprehensive orientation program followed by a month long intensive Spanish language course (Intensivo). After the Intensivo students will choose from a variety of topics courses depending on language ability. A Spanish placement test determines which courses students are allowed to select. The semester begins with an orientation and a group excursion to Madrid. Students have full university privileges and access to libraries, study areas, sports, cultural and recreational services, and other activities.

In Granada you will find yourself immersed in a city with a deep and interesting history, a modern flair, and old world beauty. At the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains Granada’s jewel, the Alhambra, watches over the city. During the day you will dive into the Spanish and Granada culture through courses, museums, cultural events and interactions with your host family. Through the evening you will continue your cultural and language immersion as you chat with some of the many thousands of university students, relax in a café or tapas bar, or simply sleep and dream in Spanish.

  • RESTRICTIONS:  

    With the exception of Span 409, Spanish majors (regardless of point at which they declare their major) must take all required content courses for the Spanish major on the Gonzaga Campus. (In order to complete the major requirements, Spanish majors must complete 2 courses chosen from Spanish 303, 304, 307 and 308; and one course chosen from Span 409, 410, 415 or 416 on Gonzaga's campus.) Granada courses not listed below will be transferred as Span 480. Students must obtain written approval of the Director of the Spanish Program before enrolling in them.  No exceptions. All listed courses taken by students in Granada will be counted as elective credits*, except those which fulfill core requirements.

  • SPANISH MAJORS OR MINORS MUST TAKE SPANISH 301 on Gonzaga's campus (and pass it with at least a B grade) BEFORE STUDYING IN GRANADA.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the  program is based on the following criteria:

  • 3.0 GPA
  • All Spanish major or minors must complete Spanish 301 at GU before they study in Granada
  • Two letters of academic recommendation from college professors who have taught you Spanish
  • Academic clearance form
  • Student Life clearance form

  • Interested GU students are encourage to apply early as this program has limited space.Contact the Study Abroad office for deadline exceptions. Late applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
