Bonjour, et bienvenue sur le site web de notre département!

We recognize that today's students are concerned not only with what they study but how it will contribute to their eventual career path. In the French program, we seek to give students a degree in French that prepares them for professional life in the 21st century. Many French majors at Gonzaga have prepared second majors. They have successfully integrated their study of French with degrees in biology, business, public relations, or international studies in order to pursue careers in business, medicine, or law. Other graduates of our French program have served as Peace Corps volunteers in French-speaking countries, have entered into the teaching profession, or have continued on to obtain graduate degrees.

The French major and minor are structured around the Gonzaga-in-Paris program; thus the study abroad program is a requirement for a major in French, and is strongly encouraged for the minor in French. With courses at the Catholic Institute and the Sorbonne, the Paris program offers students the opportunity to become proficient in French and to appreciate the rich heritage of the French culture.

Accredited by the Northwest accreditation board, membership in Modern Language Association (MLA) and in American Council on the Teaching of Foreign languages (ACTFL), the French Department offers a scholarship to a student who demonstrates outstanding ability in the study of French.
